Social Change Incubator World Muse Receives $2,500 “Living Your Bhakti” Grant
Bhakti Chai, a major 2013 partner of Off the Mat Into the World™, culminates this year’s partnership with the first ever “Living Your Bhakti” Grant Contest. The contest sought Off the Mat Into the World Leaders who are “living their bhakti” (their devotion through social action) via a non-profit or project that significantly benefits the global community and that furthers the mission of Off The Mat, Into The World (OTM).
Bhakti Chai selected Amanda Stuermer, founder of World Muse, to receive the $2,500 award. “Each and every grant applicant is living their bhakti in a powerful way. Amanda stood out to us because she has truly manifested a social movement inspired by women and girls,” says Brook Eddy, Founder and CEO of Bhakti Chai. “World Muse is an organization we are very passionate about and feel Amanda’s devotion to living her purpose has transformed into making a significant difference in the global community. We envision a long-term partnership based on our mutual mission to affect social change. ”
World Muse is a Bend, OR based non-profit organization that champions women and girls worldwide. World Muse offers events and programs designed to inspire them to create the change they wish to see in the world. The mission is to connect women to sources of inspiration and help cultivate the necessary resources, tools, and networks to turn that inspiration into activation. They serve as a social change incubator for projects inspired by women and girls. They host the Muse Women’s Conference and Muse Camp and also offer Muse Maker Social Change and Teen Muse Programs.
Building on the success of its curriculum thus far, World Muse’s short-‐term goal is to use the grant to fund the development of this curriculum over the next 6 months. Its long-‐term goal is to continue growing its community and its reach through partnerships. It wants to inspire by example. Stuermer believes that it is time for women and girls to work together to create change. As OTM Founder Seane Corn says, “when women come together and breathe together, ritual happens, magic happens.” World Muse brings women and girls from around the world together through bhakti to create magical change and to create global transformation. Stuermer believes mindful living leads to compassionate action and positive social change. She has been involved in many Off the Mat programs including raising $20,000 with the Global Seva Challenge Uganda, Leadership Training Intensives as a participant and assistant, Yoga in Action and the organizational incubator program, Project Springboard. “World Muse is not solely about me living my bhakti,” she says, “It is about women and girls from around the world living our bhakti. It is about creating a community that supports, inspires, and celebrates our combined global bhakti.”
